Since we opened in 1991 our achievements at FIV Recoletos have been made thanks to the joint efforts and work of our medical and technical team.

We started out in Valladolid in January 1991 with programmes for Artificial Insemination by Husband or by Donor, which required the creation of a sperm bank, as well as programmes for In Vitro Fertilisation. In that year we were pioneers in these techniques in the Autonomous Region of Castilla y León.

In 1992 and 1993, and in view of the results we had obtained, we extended the Unit with two new programmes: embryo cryopreservation and egg donation.

Later, in 1995, by which time assisted reproduction had become one of the most dynamic disciplines in medical science, we added intracitoplasmatic sperm injection (ICSI).

Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD), a technique we introduced in 2001 consists of selecting healthy embryos from carriers of genetic illnesses before they are implanted and is also used for couples who suffer repeated miscarriages and implantation failures.

In 2005 two new Assisted Reproduction Centres were opened in Ciudad Real and Guadalajara and both were winners of the tender to carry out their work under the auspices of SESCAM (the Castilla la Mancha Health Service).

In 2006 the Madrid centre was opened at the Hospital Nuestra Señora de América.

Over the years, FIV Recoletos has created a patient care programme to ensure that assisted reproduction procedures are as comfortable and satisfactory as possible. We think that the practice of these procedures is about quality of life and that quality, success, continual improvement and good patient care should be our reason for being.
