Breast cancer is the most common type of neoplasia in women if we consider that one in ten women will suffer from it within their lifetime.

In spite of the fact that it is an illness which is clearly on the rise, its mortality rate is clearly falling. This reduction in the mortality rate is being achieved thanks to the fact that we have better knowledge of how to diagnose it early and that there are better and also less aggressive ways of treating it.

In order to obtain a better diagnosis we need women's collaboration.

- If you are under 30 and do not have a family history of breast cancer, you should check your breasts yourself after your period, looking for any lumps. If you find one, be calm because it will probably be benign. Visit your doctor who will use ultrasound and a smear test to confirm how benign it is.

- Up to the age of 40 you should continue with self-checks. A mammography might be necessary to see how the breast is from the radiological point of view.

- From the age of 40 you should have an annual check-up with an expert who, in addition to examining the breast, will give you a mammography every year. He or she might also give you an ultrasound scan of any dubious areas, and will give you other tests to confirm that no pathology is present in the breast.

THE RECOLETOS GYNAECOLOGY CLINIC uses the latest technology with a multidisciplinary team of professionals to make a precise and rapid (48 hours) breast pathology diagnosis.

The team is made up of a GYNAECOLOGIST AND BREAST EXPERT who acts as coordinator, TWO RADIOLOGISTS who study the mammographies and operate a PRONE DIGITAL STEREOTACTIC TABLE which we use for marking and carrying out a biopsy on suspect areas in the breast which cannot be examined by touch (non-palpable lesions), a PLASTIC SURGEON who may, in cases where a breast has to be removed, reconstruct it immediately, and an ONCOLOGIST who will assess each case and give the necessary treatments.

All of these processes are carried out using high technology.

The Breast Unit at the RECOLETOS GYNAECOLOGY CLINIC is backed by the SPANISH SOCIETY OF SENOLOGY AND BREAST PATHOLOGY.
